I have tons of pictures on my camera, but I'm unable to upload them onto our computer. This has never happened before, and I don't know if it's a problem with the camera or the computer :( Any techies out there, "Help!!".....
Here's some "old" pics just to satisfy my urge to create a post with pictures. They are from Father's Day and Ethan's swimming lessons (which he loves!).

Stay Away!
Don't come knockin' on our door....OK, you can knock on the door, but don't come all the way into our living room. You'll be bombarded by an odoriferous concoction of yummy candle, Febreeze, vinegar and water, carpet cleaner, and vomit. Seriously, could this be any more disgusting (I'm in the middle of watching Friends; can you tell?).
Ethan had a little overdose of fun on our trip to California this past weekend. I think all the traveling, late nights, heat, spoiling, etc., etc. finally caught up with our little guy today. He is just feeling crummy and not keeping anything down. Sadie thinks it's a special treat to eat second-time-mangos.... ew.
Say a prayer for Ethan tonight. It's always difficult to see your little one so miserable. As he was falling asleep, in a weak voice he said, "Mommy, is it tomorrow?" I told him that it wasn't yet. "When the sunshine comes up, then it's tomorrow, and then I will feel better?" Goodness, I hope so!

Hot or Not
(I don't know why, but...) Chris shooting the villains while playing the Johnny Nero Action Hero game = Hot
(Obviously, I know why...) Chris complaining about how tired his arm is from shooting the gun for 1 minute = Not Hot
Either way, we love, love, love him :) We had fun at Chuck E. Cheese today celebrating two whole weeks of Ethan staying in his own bed all night "until the sunshine comes up"...which means he comes and wakes me up at 6:45 a.m. So, Thumbs Up on the staying in bed part; Thumbs Down on the waking up early part.

Walking Trees
Taking a walk with Ethan through the park:
Ethan: "Mommy, this tree can move?"
Me: "Noooo" (confused by question).
Ethan: "Well, it has legs."
Exposed roots = legs for moving
:)

The Eye of the Beholder
A couple days ago, we were all at Fed-Ex Kinkos and Ethan found something he just could not live without:
We were there for quite a while, and I thought by the time we were ready to leave, his passion for this "machine", as he calls it, would have diminished. I explained to him the money situation and asked him how he planned on paying for it. Clever kiddo...he found some kind of large machine in the store, and it was here that he "scanned" it and "paid" for it, complete with button pushing transactions on invisible buttons (*he has an ENORMOUS imagination and can concoct the most intricate scenarios with nothing but a blank slate in front of him).
In the end, we worked out a deal. He would have to work extra chores to earn the machine. We came home and wrote out our list. He has never been so eager to finish a job!
A few days later, after he had earned his dues, we were at Wal-mart and we found the same calculator. In an attempt to test Ethan's desire, Chris and I took a trip to the toy section and offered many different options:
"Would you rather have this cool squirt gun or the machine?"
"Would you rather have this cool fire engine or the machine?"
"Would you rather have this cool Nerf gun or the machine?"
Each time, Ethan's response was, "I want that next time. I want the machine this time."
He has been carrying that machine around with him all over the house, crunching numbers for us and printing out receipts.
You can buy most kids their birthday gifts from Toys R Us. For Ethan, get him a gift card to Home Depot or Staples....

Heaven
Sweet Ethan....
He has been asking a ton of questions about heaven since Ollie died. He has established some basic concepts that are positive:
God is in heaven
Jesus is in heaven
We go there when we die
We need to ask Jesus into our heart so we can go there
It is beautiful there
There is no crying there
He has also established some thoughts that freak the poor kiddo out. Here are reasons he doesn't want to go to heaven:
"I don't want to go to heaven because I want to live with you and daddy!!" (also the reason he doesn't want to grow up and get married....)
"I don't want to stay there forever!"
Here's the thing....I'm ALL FOR going to heaven as a family. That's why I'm totally game for the shady scenic helicopter ride, air travel as family, etc. Not that I'm hoping we all get an early departure out of here, but that is definitely the way I'd like to go while Ethan is still so young.
In bringing up heaven for the fortieth time in the last couple days, something exciting hit Ethan:
"Mommy, now you know where Ollie is!! He is in heaven!!!"
In a roundabout way, his statement reminded me once again that the stuff of the earth is temporary, but what we have hidden in Christ, surrendered to Him, is for eternity.

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-22
Today
Sadie Fair
What a sweet-pea!!!
I might also like to add, in my defense, that little dogs dressed in cute clothes has not been about following starlets' lead...... My favorite dog since I was a little girl has been the chihuahua, and my first dog, Sparky (a chihuahua rescue), had three doggie shirts and an untold number of doll clothes and diapers that I dressed him up in for rides around the block in my bicycle basket :)

Introducing Sadie
Here's SADIE :) (Secretly, but to Chris' dismay, her full name is Sadie Fair the Chocolate Princess). I looked up her name, and Sadie is a Hebrew name meaning Princess. I think it fits.
She is the stray from the kennel, and I know she's kind of funny looking, but God looks on the heart, not the outward appearance, so keep that in mind :)
Sadie is such a sweet girl! She doesn't seem to know a stranger. She loves to sit in all our laps...and Chris even let her cuddle with him on the couch (*gasp* dogs are not to be on the furniture!). I think she's pretty good at wrapping herself around fingers....
I put her on the scale at PetSmart today and she was a whole 3.5 pounds. The vet thinks she's between 5 and 6 months old. At the kennel, she slept all night in her crate without accidents, so I think she'll be pretty easy to potty train if she's not already. So far, we have spent quite a bit of time outside and she's been a good girl. Ranger and her are doing fine, and Sadie has been really submissive with her.
It's hard not to compare her with Ollie, but so far, she's doing a great job filling our house with smiles. I think she'll make a great fit for our family :)
eeeee!!!! I love her (string-bean legs, big eyes, and all)!!!!!

Blind Bartimeus
I asked Ethan to read me a Bible story the other day, and as he was flipping through a Bible, he came to this picture:Ethan asked me, "Why is that man doing this (imitating the blind man on the ground)?"
I explained to him that he was blind, and to drive home the point, I asked Ethan to close his eyes and only use his hands to find different things around his room.
As he was feeling around for my face, I remembered something funny from when I was a girl:
When I was about 9 or 10, I decided to have a life lesson, ala "Punky Brewster" episode 17. I was going to wear a blindfold and "see" what is was like to live life as a blind person for one whole day. Armed with my bandanna blindfold and broom stick, I began walking around our house.
I remember it wasn't very long into my experiment before I got a little bored with it and decided to start doing tricks with my seeing eye stick. I started to flip it around my back, when it became wedged between the wall and a large aquarium we had in our hallway. Without being able to see anything, my other "heightened senses" quickly alerted me to the sound of breaking glass and the feel of gushing water. Oh man, that tank broke all over our carpeted hallway. I remember it was a TON of water, and the fish were flopping all over the glass. We took the fish to a neighbor's house, but I don't remember if they took them in or not.
I remember my mom getting the towels and being most concerned about me not cutting my feet on the glass (thanks, Mom). I wish I had some deep parallel into this story, but I don't. That's the end of that one....
In puppy news, the kennel is going to replace a dog for me, plus medical. Ethan and I went back to Ollie's breeder and played with some puppies yesterday. There were three I liked:
This precious girl, Lady, but the breeder said she wasn't really a people-person. She knows I'm looking for a lap-sitter. She was sooo cute, but never came up to me.
Then there is Rascal. He is soooo sweet and played with us the whole time. Problem is, he is itty-bitty and probably won't get over three pounds. That scares me with Ethan. Not to mention Ethan did pounce on him and trap him like a run-away hamster while we were visiting. Embarrassing....
And finally, there was Montel. He looked so much like Ollie, but with a long coat. He was personable and slept on my lap a lot. The breeder said he is much like Ollie in temperament and build, but a little less reserved. I'm not sold on a long coat, though:
(All puppies are from Robin Dyson, http://chihuahua4u.homestead.com)
I think I did find a little girl who stole my heart, though. She is a skinny little squirmy thing and she is a rescue from the shelter. Even though she is not the same "quality" as Ollie, she sure is sweet. Every time I sat down to visit with her, she ran up and sat on my lap. She is really outgoing, but very loving. I visited her three times in the past two days.
Chris, Ethan, and I are making one more trip to see all the dogs today. I feel like a contestant on "The Bachelor"....contemplating the qualities of each eligible match, looking at their pictures, spending time with each one.... Could you just see me in a room with all their pictures in a frame, taking each one down and looking introspective? HA! This decision feels HUGE to me. I know in the grand scheme of things it's not, but prayers for wisdom are welcomed!
